All of our pottery is one of a kind wheel thrown or handbuilt stoneware. Most pieces are functional, but occasionally purely decorative work is done as well.
Our glazes are lead free and the pottery is dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. I do recommend that you keep the pottery away from the heating element in the bottom of the dishwasher, as the pottery may not like the direct heat. I also recommend that you place the pottery in a cold oven and then preheat the oven and pottery together.
For those who don’t know, when wheel thrown pottery is semi-dry it is trimmed, then allowed to air dry until totally dry. It is then bisque fired, a process that makes the piece hard enough to handle without breaking. Then it is glazed by dipping or spraying and again fired in the kiln at temperatures around 2200 degrees (cone 6 electric), a process that takes several hours. There is always the possibility that the kiln god will jump in there and make glazes run or small cracks magically appear. So, it is always a surprise when the kiln is opened. We always hope good things will happen. The unknown is what makes custom orders a challenge. Please don’t give me a short deadline!!!
